About Kling
Kling Furniture Company
John A. King founded Kling Factories in 1911 after emigrating from Sweden. He purchased a bankrupt bed and lounge company in Mayville, New York and renamed it the Chautauqua Cabinet Company. For the next 50 years it would run as a family-owned furniture making company. He had gotten his start in the furniture business back in the late 1800s working in several area furniture factories. He worked as a cabinetmaker who eventually worked up to plant superintendent prior to starting his own company. By 1928, four additional furniture factories were under the ownership of John Kling. He had each plant specialize in a style of furniture. Eventually, Kling Factories was purchased by Ethan Allen.
