Harley Ferguson Shuford, Sr. founded Century Furniture in 1947 in Hickory, NC. Harley was probably one of the biggest masterminds leading the furniture industry in the mid-century era. Harley surrounded himself by some of the most successful designers in the industry at the time, including Thomas O’Brien, Windsor Smith, and Bob Timberlake. He was quoted as saying, “we strive to make furniture of such impeccable quality that it brings joy not only to the people who own it, but also the craftsmen who build it.”
