Thomasville Furniture Through The Years

Furniture Brands | 02.25.23 | Derek Brewster
Thomasville Furniture is a well-known brand of high-end products that has been in operation for over a century.

Collectors know Thomasville Furniture for its exquisite designs and craftsmanship, making it one of the most popular brands in the world.

Thomasville Furniture’s history started in 1904 when a group of businessmen established a chair factory in Thomasville, North Carolina. The factory was named the Thomasville Chair Company, and its origins start in an old tobacco warehouse. Initially, the factory produced only chairs. As demand for quality furniture grew, the company expanded its product line to include tables, cabinets, and more. In 1910, the company was purchased by C.F. Finch, a local businessman, who renamed it the Thomasville Furniture Company. Under Finch’s leadership, the company expanded its product line even further. Thomasville started producing a wide range of high-quality pieces sold throughout the United States.

The Early 1900’s

Throughout the 1920s and 1930s, Thomasville Furniture continued to expand its operations, opening new factories and showrooms across the country. By the 1940s, the company had become one of the largest furniture manufacturers in the world.

During World War II, the company shifted its focus to producing furniture for the military. After the war, it returned to producing high-quality furniture for the general public. In the post-war years, Thomasville Furniture became known for its innovative designs and high-quality craftsmanship.

Through the 1950s and 1960s, the company continued to grow, expanding its product line to include a wide range of styles, from traditional to modern. In the 1970s, Thomasville Furniture introduced a new line called “Ernest Hemingway Collection,” inspired by the famous author’s love of travel and adventure. The collection featured pieces designed to evoke the look and feel of Hemingway’s homes in Key West, Cuba, and Idaho.

In the 1980s, Thomasville Furniture became part of Armstrong World Industries, a large industrial conglomerate. This move allowed the company to further expand its operations and product lines, and by the 1990s, it had become one of the most well-known furniture brands in the world.

Present Day

Today, Thomasville Furniture is still a leading brand in the industry, known for its high-quality craftsmanship and innovative designs. The company offers a wide range of furniture styles, from traditional to contemporary, and its collections include everything from bedroom and dining room sets to home office and outdoor furniture.

In recent years, Thomasville Furniture has focused on expanding its e-commerce presence, making it easier for customers to shop online. The company has also introduced new sustainability initiatives, such as using eco-friendly materials in its products and reducing its carbon footprint.

In 2019, Thomasville Furniture was acquired by Heritage Home Group, a company that specializes in the design, manufacturing, and marketing of furniture. Under the new ownership, the brand expects to continue its tradition of excellence, producing high-quality furniture that is both beautiful and functional.
